Little House of Piano Studio Policies

Teaching Philosophy and Goals

It is important that each student receive a balanced music education. I include theory, finger training, ear training and sight reading into my music lessons. My goal is to cultivate a love of music as well as a love of playing the piano in each of my students. I try to tailor my teaching method to each of my students while maintaining a simple teaching philosophy: start out with a solid foundation of the basics and build up ability from those foundations. Eventually, my students will have the skills they need to break down even the most complex music into smaller, more manageable parts so they can learn anything!

My format is predictable and straight forward. Every lesson will contain 3 components:

  • A Review of the Previous Week's Assignments
  • An Introduction to New Pieces
  • A Theory Lesson

Missed Lessons

There will be no refunds due to missed lessons for any reason.

Three consecutive missed lessons without prior written arrangement valid excuse may result in losing the reserved lesson slot or dismissal from the studio.

If I am ever unable to give your lesson due to an unforeseen circumstance or sickness, I will notify you as soon as possible. There will be no charge for lessons that I cancel. Due to unexpected circumstances, your instructor may be absent. A qualified substitute teacher may be provided for lessons missed.

Inclement Weather

Lessons will be cancelled if Painesville City Local Schools are closed due to inclement weather. In the event of any other cancellation you will be notified by text, telephone or email.I do not charge for lessons cancelled by myself due to weather and students will be credited for that lesson in the following month.

Tardy Arrival

Students are asked to arrive on time for lessons. Students arriving late will not have their lesson time extended. Students arriving late by more than five minutes will be considered absent, and the teacher will NOT grant their lesson. Missed lesson time due to tardy arrival will be charged at the normal lesson rate whether they are attended or not.

Lesson Termination

Lessons may be terminated by a student at any time with written notice. Termination notices should be provided in writing. No refunds will be provided in the event of termination. Failure to notify the teacher of withdraw will result in continued billing for cancelled lessons at your normal rate.

If a tuition payment is late, a reminder invoice will be emailed to you along with a $15.00 late fee. If the tuition payment is late for a second week, lessons will be terminated and you will be billed for any outstanding tuition.

If a student does not practice, is chronically absent or late, displays disruptive behavior, or the teacher feels it to be appropriate for any reason, the teacher may terminate lessons. A one-month probation period may precede lesson termination.

Tuition and Payments

Tuition Remittance Schedule: Monthly tuition is due at the FIRST LESSON of each month OR during the FIRST WEEK of the month, whichever occurs first.

Invoices will be emailed for the upcoming month on the last Saturday of each month. There will be no charge for scheduled holidays listed on term registration forms.

Late payments – Of course I understand if a parent accidentally forgets a payment; however because this is my job and income, please understand that a $15.00 late fee will be added if payment is not received at the student’s first lesson of the month. If a check is returned for any reason and I incur any bank charges from the return of your check, those charges will be added to the following month’s lesson fee. Non-payment or consistent late payments is cause for termination immediately without notice.

Little House of Piano reserves the right to stop a student's instructional activities if there is an unpaid account balance. After 2 unpaid lessons, lessons will be suspended pending payment. After 3 unpaid lessons, instruction will be terminated.

Students and families with outstanding balances prior to a recital will not be permitted to perform. All invoiced fees must be PAID IN FULL one week prior to a recital in order to perform at that recital. In the interest of fairness to all students and families, no exceptions will be made.

What Tuition Covers

Tuition covers not only the actual lesson time spent with the student, but the time preparing for each student as well.

This includes:

•An individualized student curriculum

•Professional organization memberships

•Incentive Programs

•Continuing education

Enrollment fees are structures as follows for one weekly lesson:

In-Studio Lessons

First   StudentSecond   StudentAdditional   Student/s
30 Minute Lesson$18$12$10
60 Minute Lesson$25$20$15
  • Multi-Student discount only applies to siblings. Consecutive sibling lessons are NOT required.

Student Responsibilities

Students that establish good practice habits from the beginning will progress more rapidly and likely find lessons more enjoyable. Practice times will vary based on student's age and playing level. The most important thing is that practice must be done consistently. I encourage parents to supervise home practice sessions when possible and to provide feedback and suggestions for me to increase the effectiveness of my teaching. Parents are always welcome to sit in on lessons.

Students are responsible to complete daily practice and to come prepared to lessons (with their binder, all books, practice log and completed theory work).

Student Instrument

You should have a piano or full sized, weighted keyboard (88 keys) with foot pedals in your home. I believe that there is no substitute for the touch, feel and sound that a piano provides. However, I am aware that a piano can be a very costly investment. In cases where a piano or a fully weighted keyboard are not feasible or in the case of young children that are trying an instrument out for the first time, a smaller keyboard can provide a satisfactory practice instrument for approximately 4-6 months for a beginning student. All students MUST have a practice instrument available on or before their first lesson.
